After nearly 40 days on the road, I’ve vowed to spend as much time on the water as possible. With a 4:00 am rise, I put the pirogue in at Hopedale Marina’s new kayak launch, ready to chase after redfish, which is where I met Kirk. He offered to show me where he’d been successful the week before, and over the next several hours, I fished alongside him as he reeled in his limit; I, on the other hand, reeled in a wide and strange mix of smaller fish, but none I’d want to bring home. I’d attribute it to my very humble setup, but really I just didn’t have the right lure. Each trip out is a learning lesson.
