Project Assistant
Paprika’s launching a new portrait project, and looking for help in its planning, roll-out and publicity. The right person for this role is organized and relational, with a curiosity for hearing others’ stories. (Bonus if you have strong connection to the New Orleans area, and a desire to collaborate creatively.) Hours are flexible, and some work can be performed remotely, on your own schedule. Experience with photography equipment might be helpful, but is definitely not a requirement here—you’ll be handling more of the logistics of the project, not the gear.
Examples of what you’ll be helping with:
- Outlining and keeping tabs on project goals
- Maintaining communication with participants
- Planning and developing content for publicity
- Exploring partnerships to broaden the project’s reach
About the project:
Last summer, James Collier (Paprika’s creative lead) started hosting portrait sessions with men paired with intimate discussions about strength, pride, insecurity and weakness. The project, titled The Words We Use, is an ongoing examination of masculinity and objectivity. This new initiative builds on that work, but shifts the focus to the women in our lives, and asks male participants to listen as they share their stories of assault, survival, fear and healing. Sensitivity to these stories will be a key responsibility for the project assistant.
The current offering is for 8-10 hours per week to start, paying $15 per hour. Perks include meeting some really great people, helping to share their stories, and studio meals—we really love good food, after all.
