Sugar Cane (Harvest)

Sugar cane harvest in Iberia Parish, Louisiana’s largest producer. The stalks are cut and piled, then burned in the field to increase yields and lower the cost of production in the factories. Cane was originally brought to the area by Jesuit priests; 250 years later, it now spreads across 450,000 acres, throughout 22 parishes.
